Featuring a massage service and a sea-view outdoor bath, Lido Park Resort is 2.5 mi from Hachijo Island Airport. Rooms have a balcony with ocean or mountain views.

It was just perfect. The staff were great, very helpful. The Onsen was amazing, indoor and outdoor. The pool was great with floaties for guests to use, and inflatable small swimming pools on the side of the pool for babies. The breakfast was awesome, and very nice views from the big windows. The hotel is less than a 10min drive from Sokodo beach. Great place.

NoboryusoーVacation STAY 40250v, hotel in Hachijo

NoboryusoーVacation STAY 40250v is offering accommodations in Mitsune. The hotel has both free WiFi and free private parking.

The rooms were fantastic and large! The mattress was the most comfortable we experienced in Japan and they even had options for tatami mats if you would rather. While the bathrooms are shared, they are meticulously cleaned daily making it no big deal. There are 2 showers for 7 rooms and 3 toilets. We never had an issue with this as the ratio was more than alright. The owner was extremely kind and wore a phone on a necklace that had Google translate open at all times. She was the best! The location was also completely great.

Most important: Rent a car when visiting.

Most important: Rent a car when visiting. The island isn't suited for exploration by foot. The distance between places of interest can be great and the whole island is full of steep slopes. I rented an electric bike and would only recommend it to people who have the explicit goal of biking. It is worth noting that you can reach the island by ferry AND plane. Taking the ferry has three sleeping options - I STRONGLY advise against anything but the most expensive one. I don't know if the first class is good, I just know that the other two are a surefire way to a bad night. Taking the plane is about as expensive or even cheaper than first class on the ferry, only takes an hour, and isn't a 10 hour ship ride. IF you take the ship to the island, I strongly recommend taking the plane back. The ferry leaves for Hachjiojima at 22:30 and arrives at 9:00 - an overnight trip. But it leaves the island at 9:30 and arrives in Tokyo at ~20:00, meaning you lose an entire day. Regarding the island itself: I think some of the highlights are climbing Hachijofuji and exploring the abandoned Royal Hotel. Both are manageable within a day. Depending on the weather, Hachijo has a beautiful night sky - it's not called Dark Sky Island for nothing. Other things worth doing are visiting Plant Park in the west of the island and exploring the southern side. There are some nice onsen experiences to be had in the south, but not all of them are open at all times. Planning a trip of two days, - arrival by ferry at 9 AM, doing things, spending a night, doing things and leaving by plane at 5 PM, - seems prudent choice. It's a subtropical island, which you might want to keep in mind if you plan on visiting in summer.

Hachijo is a beautiful island with lots of natural beauty.

Hachijo is a beautiful island with lots of natural beauty. There are several cool restaurants to eat and drink. I particularly liked hiking up the two mountains and soaking in the Uramigataki onsen/hot spring. I strongly suggest driving/hiring a driver as taking taxis everywhere isn't particularly convenient.

After barely scratching the surface of Tokyo with some...

After barely scratching the surface of Tokyo with some sightseeings in the Asakusa, Meguro and Shinagawa districts, I flew into Hachijō-jima, a remote volcanic island of the Izu archipelago (伊豆諸島) off of Philippine Sea. My original plan for island hopping from Hachijō-jima to the rare dual caldera volcanic island Aogashima (青ヶ島) had to change the last minute due to unpredictable weather. Hachijō-jima is close to Tokyo by air and is rich in nature. It really is quite surreal to be in a Hawaii-esque tropicana, yet still within the governmental confines of the world's largest metropolis. Definitely a nice change of pace and to experience a really unique side of Tokyo: its volcanic landscape, locally-produced food and liquor, and the genuine warmth and island hospitality of its people.
