There’s Nothing Like a Japanese Spring

We’ve been beckoning it for months. For warmth, for beauty, for the city to turn to laughter. We anxiously anticipate the change, yet its eventual arrival feels sudden. It’s nowhere to be seen, then somehow it’s just there. In all its fleeting glory.

Just like last year and the year before that, we take a snapshot to saviour. Then add it to the memory bank of another passing year. How is it that we never tire? How is it that one photograph will never be enough?

Nomads, this is Tokyo right at this very moment in photos.

“It’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want – oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!” ~ Mark Twain

Cherry Blossoms Tokyo

“When spring came, even the false spring, there were no problems except where to be happiest.” ~ Ernest Hemingway

Cherry Blossoms Tokyo

“Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s party!'” ~ Robin Williams

Cherry Blossoms Tokyo

“It is spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart.” ~ Rainer Maria Rilke

Cherry Blossoms Tokyo

“I want to do to you what spring does with the cherry trees.” ~ Pablo Neruda

Cherry Blossoms Tokyo

“She turned to the sunlight
And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbor:
“Winter is dead.” ~ A. A. Milne

So lovely! The photos are, of course, exquisite. I love the quote pairings you chose. Hope it's not snowing this weekend, so you can enjoy the bloom.

Thank you! I think Hai captured them beautifully. Despite the snow and sakura combo being a freakishly amazing occurrence, I'm happy to report that spring proper seems to have arrived! :)

They'll be on their way out but you should still be able to catch some. We staked out Yoyogi Park for our hanami party earlier in the week and picked a spot where two cherry trees hadn't bloomed yet. So we hope they'll linger for us!

Thanks Liz! You'll definitely have to. You'll have an amazing time photographing the cherry blossoms, for sure. Be sure to let us know when you do, we'll do hanami together!

Don't those blossoms just take your breath away? I've only seen them in DC and China, but one of these springs I'll make it to Japan!

It doesn't matter how many times you see them, they are still breathtaking. Can't believe they're almost gone for another year. It's really windy today and they are already falling. Nooooo! Yes, one of these springs you must come visit!
